Hi Kelly! I never know when I start, what scriptures will make it onto the page and which one's will not. I also never know what I will draw. If I try to make a plan at all, it changes completely by the time the page is done. At first I would get so intimidated, not knowing how to start but the way to take that first step for me. . . is to just start :) I always pray, then read through the chapter a couple of times and underline things that jump out at me and make notes in my margins for the "big" ideas. The first thing I do on paper is to doodle the title and then just refuse to stop from there until my page is full. I start writing scriptures and doodling and let them fall where they may. . . sometimes I will move things around a bit here and there, but for the most part I just let it go. I never have a plan how it will look when finished. On the page I did for today, I had so many more scriptures underlined during my reading that I thought would make it onto the page, but I ran out of room. . . and that's ok :) That's half the fun. . .seeing what appears on paper and what doesn't :) I hope you have been able to start doodle journaling as well as you had mentioned in a previous comment :)
I think one of the things that helped me the most, is that I stopped trying to make "pretty pictures" and stopped trying to "make art". I stopped trying to do what I thought it meant to be a "Bible Journaler" and just started having fun in the Word. It's ok that my silly little doodles do not look like anyone else'. I love the beautiful artwork that so many people out there do, but I like the freedom of just being me. . . silly doodles and all :) Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting!
I love your thoughtful replies, thank you so much tara! That makes sense. And your 'silly doodles' are very beautiful and make you want to come back to see more. They inspire me greatly. I have yet to start though. I have my little journalling book and some pens, pencils, watercolors but i'm daunted by which angle to take on it. Which style to go with and what time of day. It's amazing how all these things can prevent you from actually getting anything on any of the pages. Like you said, I just need to stop trying and thinking too much and about what its supposed to look like and just have fun. I know thats what its going to take. I may do a blog similar to yours though once i get started! I'll share it with you, though like i said, its not going to be a beautiful as yours!
Oh please do share it if you start one! That would be fantastic :) When you feel intimidated just remember, the ultimate goal is to spend time with God in His Word. Every doodle, every prayer, every journal entry, every scribbled note, every poem is a testament to a desire of building a stronger relationship with God, of loving Him deeper and an outward expression of the priority you want to give Him in your life. That, in and of itself is what true beauty is, regardless of what actually appears on paper! I really cannot wait to see your journey!
